COLLECTING FOOD ITEMS FOR SECOND HARVEST

POSTED BY SCOTT MAENTZ ON NOVEMBER 3RD

When we first started the Geek Breakfast in Knoxville we established a practice of collecting non-perishable food items for Second Harvest food bank. Over the summer we discontinued the practice for no good reason. We just sort of stopped doing it.

Today one of our fellow geeks, Paul Simmons, suggested we reinstate this practice and he offered to deliver the goods in my absence (I’ll be on vacation the week of November’s breakfast). I think it’s a great idea and so I’m asking each of you attending this month’s breakfast to participate.

The food items most needed by our community food bank are canned tuna and peanut butter, however any non-perishable item in your pantry will do. The bottom line is that whatever you bring will help feed someone who’s hungry. That’s what really matters.

It’s fantastic that you are doing this. The JustUsLeeg rallied it’s members during the holidays for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Tree Angel project. We managed to pack a 15 passenger van full of toys and clothes for kids in the area. I think that it’s great that we can get together like this and do something viable to help in our community.
